I am in receipt of your letter No. 7592
and have the honour to ask you to thank His Excellency for
referring to the Consulting Engineers the question of granting
me an allowance in lieu of the leave I earned on the works.
I would however point out that the cost to
the Government of Hongkong due to the cracking of the Bridges la
not what they will cost for reconstruction but the coat as
fault to my original design which ia comparatively small as for
the sake of economy I risked shallow instead of deep founda-
-tions.
